Maybe a criminal named Roscoe is involved, but I haven’t found him. The male name Roscoe comes from the Germanic words meaning “swift horse.” One Roscoe with something named after him is William Roscoe (1753–1831), a British philanthropist and historian who has the American bird Roscoe’s Yellowthroat honoring his patronym.
