| 词源 | lead pencil; graphite. Pencils are not made of lead but of a mixture of graphite and clay. Bad habits are hard to break, how- ever, and people have been calling graphite pencils “lead pen- cils” since the 16th century, when they were first mistaken as such. Graphite itself derives frim the Greek word for “to write.” See pencil. |
