词汇 | discus |
词源 | discus. The ancient Greek word diskos—which derived from the Greek dikein, to throw—meant a flat, round stone or metal object thrown in athletic contests. Diskos passed into Latin, and finally into English as discus, retaining the same meaning. Because of its round shape, the discus gave us the words dish, disk—as in floppy disk—and even desk, which originally meant a round table. |
