V.I.P. dummy. The name given to the first automotive crash- test dummy in 1968 by U.S. inventor Samuel W. Alderson (1914–2005). Such dummies have been used to test automotive safety features like seat belts and air bags, which are estimated to have saved over 329,000 lives to date.
