词汇 | rival |
词源 | rival. The Latin word rivalis first meant “one who shares or uses the same river as another person.” It then came to mean “a person or persons living on the opposite side or bank of a river.” Once people live on opposite sides of a river, the river becomes a boundary, and the people often fight over it, becoming rivals or competitors. |
