King of the High C’s. A nickname for the Italian tenor Lu- ciano Pavarotti (b. 1935) for his unmatched ability early in his career to hit high notes. Pavarotti is responsible for a renewed in- terest in opera in the U.S. His notable operatic roles include Rad- ames in Aida, the duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, and notably Calat in Turandot, featuring his signature aria “Nessun Dorma.” |
