词源	killer whale; orca. The killer whale (Orcinus orca) is techni- cally a dolphin, but its relative the dolphin is its favorite food. Orca, as it is also called, has been dubbed the king of the sea and is certainly the sea’s king of ferocity. Killer whales will leap out of the water onto Arctic ice to catch seals and walruses, and packs of them often attack and kill huge whales many times their size. Among the most intelligent of all marine animals, they are just as greedy and vicious. The creatures have been known and feared since earliest times and take their scientific name from the Latin orca, meaning the same.
