One Meat Ball. A song written by Hy Zaret, one of the most prolific and successful Tin Pan Alley lyricists. Zaret died on July 30, 2007, at the age of 99. One Meat Ball told a story of a poor man in the Great Depression years who had only 15 cents for a meatball. Among the many songs Mr. Zaret wrote were So Long for Awhile, Unchained Melody, There I Go Again; and The Partisan. At the time of his death he was working on Love Song for Senior Citizens.
