词汇 | velcro |
词源 | Velcro. Swiss inventor Georges de Mestral, the inventor of Velcro, is said to have been inspired by the way the burrs of the weed burdock stuck to people’s clothing. He invented the trade- mark fabric “touch and close” fastener in 1957 and named it from French velours, “velvet,” and croche, “hooked.” The fasten- er is actually two nylon strips, one made up of little hooks and the other consisting of small loops. When the two nylon strips are pressed together, the hooks grasp the loops, fastening the strips. The material is used on hundreds of products and made Georges de Mestral a fortune. |
