noisette. The hardy, widely grown garden rose named the noisette, a cross of the moss rose and the China rose, origi- nated in America in about 1816. It was named after an early cultivator (not the originator) of the hybrid, Philippe Noisette of Charleston, South Carolina. It is less often called the Champney rose, for its discoverer, John Champney of Charleston. |
