| 词源 | puppy. Lapdogs were treated like dressed dolls or playthings by French ladies in the late 15th century, and so a lapdog was called poupée, “doll.” When the word came into English years later, its spelling changed to puppy, and it lost its associations with lapdogs, applied instead only to young dogs, especially those less than a year old. |
