pulled teeth. One’s power decreases when teeth are pulled or drawn, according to ancient belief. This may well have been lit- erally true among primitive people when teeth were a weapon (as they were in the 1997 Tyson-Holyfield fight when Tyson bit off a piece of his opponent’s ear). The belief is said to come from a fable about a love-struck lion who agreed to have his teeth pulled and claws clipped if a fair lady would wed him. Af- ter Leo did this, the damsel’s father slew the King of Beasts. |
