unusual vowels. Among the French author Georges Perec’s most unusual works was a novel in which the most common vowel wasn’t used, and another novel in which e was the only vowel used. He also wrote an anagrammatic poem using only the 10 commonest letters in the alphabet—e, s, a, r, t, i, n, u, l, and o. He claimed that a palindrome he wrote of 5,000 charac- ters was the longest in the world. See vowel. |
