词汇 | two strings to one-s bow |
词源 | two strings to one’s bow. To be prepared for anything, to have an alternate plan. This expression is probably much older than its first recorded use, by Cardinal Wolsey in 1524, having its roots in the archer of ancient times who always carried at least two bowstrings when he went into battle. |
