词汇 | twit |
词源 | twit. A twit is an insignificant foolishly annoying person. I’ve heard the word mainly in remarks like “Nasty little twit, isn’t he?” and it apparently comes ultimately from the Old English aetwitan, to reproach or taunt. There are several theories how- ever, about the origins of this word, which is first recorded in the early 1920s in this sense. |
