词汇 | crowbar |
词源 | crowbar. This iron or steel bar used for prying is named for the resemblance of its forked end to either a crow’s foot, beak, or tail—no one seems to be sure which. The term dates back to about 1825, but for four centuries before this, crow had been used for the tool, Shakespeare so calling it in his Comedy of Er- rors. See as the crow flies. |
