kitch (n.)

"烹饪食物的房间，用于烹饪的建筑部分"，公元1200年左右，源自古英语 cycene “厨房”，来自原始日耳曼语 *kokina（源头还包括中古荷兰语 cökene，古高地德语 chuhhina，德语 Küche，丹麦语 kjøkken），可能借自通俗拉丁语 *cocina（源头还包括法语 cuisine，西班牙语 cocina），是拉丁语 coquina “厨房”的变体，来自 coquinus “厨师的”，源自 coquus “厨师”，来自 coquere “烹饪”（源自 PIE 词根 *pekw- “烹饪，成熟”）。

古英语单词可能直接来自通俗拉丁语。美国英语俚语 Kitchen cabinet “非正式但有权势的顾问团队”起源于1832年，最初指安德鲁·杰克逊总统，他的亲密朋友被认为比他的官方顾问更有影响力。考古学中的 Kitchen midden（1863年）翻译自丹麦语 kjøkken mødding。姓氏 Kitchener（“从事或监督（修道院）厨房工作的人”）可追溯至14世纪初。
