gerrymander (v.)

1812年，美国英语中“无视自然边界安排政治划分，以在选举中给一方优势”的意思，也是从1812年作为名词出现的，源自于马萨诸塞州州长埃尔布里奇· Gerry 和 (sala)mander。当时，Gerry 为了保留反联邦党的多数派地位，将该州重新划分，结果被人嘲笑。其中一个庞大的埃塞克斯县区域看起来像一只蝾螈，一位报纸编辑将其称为 Gerrymander。相关词汇： Gerrymandered； gerrymandering。
