“deification”（神化），17世纪，源自于拉丁语 apotheosis “神化”，尤指皇帝或王室人物的神化，来自希腊语 apotheosis，源自于 apotheoun “神化，使（某人）成为神”，由 apo（在此表示“改变”，参见 apo-）和 theos “神”（源自于 PIE 词根 *dhes-，用于形成宗教概念的词语）组成。
