词汇 | jehovah-s witnesses |
词源 | Jehovah’s Witnesses. A religious movement first called the Russellites after its founder, American Charles T. Russell (1852–1916). In 1931 this fundamentalist group, which recog- nized the authority of Jehovah-God alone, took the name Jeho- vah’s Witnesses. The Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in Christ as the perfect man but not divine; they refuse to salute any na- tional flag, to perform military service, or to receive blood transfusions. Their organ, The Watch Tower, sold relentlessly door-to-door, has as its motto: Millions Now Living Will Never Die. |
