词汇 | potato chip |
词源 | potato chip. George Crum, a Saratoga, New York cook of partial American Indian descent, is said to have invented potato chips in 1853 when a patron in the restaurant where he worked complained that the potatoes he had been served were too thick and undercooked. Crum sliced some potatoes paper thin, soaked them in ice-water and fried them in a kettle of boiling oil. According to the old story, the customer raved about them, they became a specialty of the restaurant and were soon dubbed potato chips. |
