Provençal troubadour Guilhem de Cabestan (fl. 13th century) suffered an end similar to the tale of King Tereus in Greek mythology, who was served the flesh of his son by his vengeful wife, Procne. According to one story, Cabestan was killed by a jealous husband, who had the poet’s heart cooked as a delicacy and served to his unfaithful wife. Af- ter his wife had finished her meal the husband informed her that she had eaten the heart of her lover, and she threw herself out the window to her death.
