词源 | to make one’s point. In the game of dice or craps, to make one’s point is to succeed in shooting the same number you shot when you first cast the dice. Over the centuries—and the ex- pression has been around since the 1300s—the words have also come to mean “to establish or win one’s argument,” as in, “All right, you’ve made your point, let’s get on with the discussion.” |
