词源	plus fours. These are long baggy knickers (not the women’s short underpants knickers of the British) that were once com- monly worn by golfers and other sportsmen and are still occa- sionally seen. Introduced in about 1912, they were so named because four more inches of material were added to the length of ordinary knickers to give them their comfortable looseness.
