词源 | go out on a limb. To go out on a limb is to take a chance, to make a chancy prediction, as in “I’ll go out on a limb and say he’ll win in a landslide.” The expression is an Americanism dat- ing back to the later 19th century; the word limb is of course a tree limb. |
