词汇 | gopher |
词源 | gopher. Gopher is probably theatrical in origin, dating back to the 1940s. The word is a corruption of the words go for and describes an errand runner, hired to do menial chores—to go for coffee and doughnuts or whatever else the boss and other higher-ups can’t acquire from a sedentary position. A gopher can also be a zealous salesman, from “go for broke.” The bur- rowing animal called the gopher has nothing to do with the expression. |
