词汇 | three sisters |
词源 | three sisters. The Iroquois Indian name for corn, pole beans, and squash, the staples of their diet before the Europeans came. The beans were planted next to the hills of corn and climbed the corn stalks, enriching the soil with nitrogen at the same time, while the broad-leaved squash plants that were planted shaded the soil, inhibiting weed growth. |
