Probably the author who got in the most trouble for the slightest trifle was English poet William Collingham, who wrote: The Rat, the Cat and Lovell the Dog Rule all England under the Hog. In this couplet the “Rat” was royal adviser Sir Richard Ratcliff, the “Cat” Sir John Catesby, the “Dog” Viscount Francis Lovell, and the “Hog” Richard III, whose crest was a boar. Collingham was executed for his witty rhyme.
