词汇 | carrot |
词源 | carrot. From the Latin carota for the vegetable, which derives from the Greek karoton. When carrots were first brought to En- gland, women liked to use the plant’s fern-like leaves as hair decorations, but didn’t much care for them as food. The ancient Greeks extolled them as “love medicine” and called them philtron. |
