词源 | pennies from heaven. Prolific American songwriter Johnny Burke coined this saying, meaning unanticipated, unhoped-for benefits, as the title of his 1936 song Pennies from Heaven. The song was very popular during the Great Depression: “Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven . . .” An old proverb says “The unexpected always happens.” |
