词源	Tennessee. Admitted to the Union in 1796 as our 16th state, Tennessee’s name derives from the name of a Cherokee settle- ment in the area that is of unknown origin. It had been called Tenaqui by the Spanish in the 16th century and went by the name State of Franklin, after Ben Franklin, from 1784–88. See volunteer state.
