Op-ed page means “opposite the editorial page.” The term was coined by Herbert Bayard Swope, editor of The New York World in the 1920s, to describe the page in a newspa- per opposite the editorial page, where columnists and other contributors can present their own views, often different from the newspaper’s editorial policy. |
