old one-two. The old one-two, a boxing punch combina- tion of a left jab followed quickly by a right cross, is indeed an old tactic, the expression dating back to at least 1800. Over the years it has acquired the extended meaning of “any strong com- bination of two persons or things,” as of a football passer and receiver. |
