词汇 | bubby |
词源 | bubby; bubee. Both Bartlett and Webster’s state that bubby, a familiar name for “a little boy,” is a corruption of “brother,” claiming it as an Americanism first recorded in about 1848. More likely, it is from the German bube, “little boy.” Bubee, a Yiddish term of endearment that can be addressed to a child or any loved one, appears to have a separate etymology. It derives from the Yiddish bubeleh, meaning the same, which probably comes from the Russian baba, “little grandmother,” and the Hebrew buba, “little doll.” |
