词汇 | brave as a badger |
词源 | brave as a badger. Ernest Hemingway called his friend for- eign correspondent Herbert Matthews brave as a badger in the early 1930s. The badger is indeed a brave mammalian creature, furiously protecting its burrow. It gets its name from the French word baucenc, which refers to the animal’s badgelike markings on its head. See badger for more about the creature, which gives its name to Michigan, the Badger State. |
