Sweet Adeline. The “Sweet Adeline” in the song of the same name was originally “Sweet Rosalie.” Songwriters Richard Ger- ard and Henry Armstrong wrote “You’re the Flower of My Heart, Sweet Rosalie” in 1903, tried to sell it, and couldn’t. When they decided to name the song’s heroine in honor of pop- ular prima donna Adelina Patti and shortened the title to “Sweet Adeline,” it sold and eventually became the barbershop quartet hit of all time. |
