词源	ground zero. Nuclear bombs are detonated before hitting the ground, and ground zero (or hypocenter) refers to the area di- rectly below their explosion. The term dates back to the early 1940s and the first a-bomb tests, but now also applies to the area around any huge explosion, fire, etc., such as the World Trade Center destruction on September 11, 2001. Ground zero, loosely used, means the “most elementary or beginning level,” as in “Let’s start at ground zero.”
