词汇 | gospel bird |
词源 | gospel bird. Southern fried chicken, almost universally known today, is probably an African invention, the chicken fried in deep fat introduced to America by blacks brought here as slaves. Gospel bird is almost certainly a black invention, chicken so called because the bird is so often served at southern Sunday dinners, especially when the preacher is coming. The humorous item is first recorded in 1902, though it must surely be older. Kentucky fried chicken is a synonym for southern fried chicken, the former term a trademark of the popular chain of restaurants that coined it. |
