词汇 gone for a burton
词源
gone for a Burton. A euphemism, typically British, for “dead” that was commonly used in the R.A.F. during World War II. Many R.A.F. pilots fell “in the drink” to their deaths and it was easier for fellow pilots to deal with their deaths by saying that they had gone for a drink of the popular Burton’s ale. See also go west.
