词源 | golden handshake. Though frequently used in the U.S., this business term was coined about 1960 by British newspaper edi- tor Frederick Ellis. It is a generous severance payment made to an executive as compensation for dismissal or early retirement. One recent payment was so large that it was called a “24-caret golden handshake.” See golden parachute. |
