词汇 | bloodhound |
词源 | bloodhound. The breed of dog called the bloodhound was known in Italy as early as the third century. This dog’s name has nothing to do with its following the blood trail of an animal or person. The bloodhound was so named because it was one of the first of the “blooded,” or purebred, breeds. Its main modern use, however, is in trailing criminals or finding lost persons. See hound. |
