词汇 | glass slippers |
词源 | glass slippers. There is no record of anyone really wearing glass slippers, though millions of readers and viewers of Cin- derella over four centuries have believed otherwise. Some scholars believe that when French poet Charles Perrault wrote his collection of eight fairy tales Histoires ou contes de temps passé, avec des moralités (stories or tales of olden times, with morals) in 1697, giving classic form to folktales like Cinderella, Puss in Boots, and Little Red Ridinghood, he misread pantoufles en vair, or squirrel-fur slippers, in the Cinderella tale for pant- oufles en verre, glass slippers—making a charming slip, or slipper. |
