New Deal. New Deal comes from Franklin Delano Roose- velt’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Conven- tion on July 2, 1932: “I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people.” Coined by Roosevelt’s speech- writers, Raymond Moley and Judge Samuel Rosenman, the phrase incorporated elements of Woodrow Wilson’s New Free- dom and Teddy Roosevelt’s Square Deal. |
