词源 | Neilsen Ratings; Q rating. Neilsen ratings are a survey con- ducted by the A. C. Neilsen Company since about 1960 to mea- sure television viewership of various programs. The ratings are based on meters placed in TV sets and viewer diaries of a preselected sample of viewers. A. C. Nielsen had been measur- ing radio audiences since 1922. The ratings, especially the Sweeps, taken in the months of February, May, July, and No- vember, determine what the networks charge sponsors. The Q rating is a poll that tries to measure the familiarity of actors, products, etc., to the television viewing audience. It is named for its devisor, the TVQ/Marketing Evaluations Co.
