词源	mushroom cloud. This image for the explosion of an atomic bomb was first used by New York Times reporter William L. Laurence in reporting the initial test of the bomb on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Laurence called the cloud a “supramundane mushroom:” “At first it was a giant col- umn that soon took the form of a supramundane mushroom. For a fleeting instant it took the form of the Statue of Liberty magnified many times.”
