词汇 | battalion |
词源 | battalion. A battalion is a large body of military troops, often an army unit with a headquarters and two or more companies of soldiers. The word derives ultimately from the Latin for “bat- tle.” But in Japan battalion means a zombie, of all things. The word came to mean zombies in Japan after a Japanese distribu- tor in 1985 rather arbitrarily changed the name of the film The Return of the Living Dead to Battalion. Japanese moviegoers thought that battalion referred to the zombies in the picture and began calling all zombies battalions. |
