Erlenmeyer flask. Emil Erlenmeyer put his name in moth- balls for posterity when he devised the first formula for naph- thalene, used in making them. The German organic chemist also invented the cone-shaped, flat-bottomed Erlenmeyer flask made from thin glass and commonly used in chemistry labora- tories. Erlenmeyer, who taught at Heidelberg, conducted many important experiments in his long, fruitful career. He died in 1909, aged 84. |
