Actor Kenneth Daigneau, the brother of a Hormel executive, won a mere $100 for Spam, which Ju- dith Stone in an exhaustive July 3, 1994, article in the New York Times Magazine (“Five Million Cans And Counting”) called “arguably the planet’s most recognizable portmanteau word” (a combination of the s from shoulder, the p from pork and the am from ham). However, chortle (from chuckle and snort) may be better known.
