词汇 soapstone son-of-a-bitch
词源
soapstone son-of-a-bitch. I’ve found this derogatory expres- sion only in Richard Ford’s novel Wildlife (1990), set in Mon- tana around 1960. Soapstone has a greasy slippery feel to it and is thus an appropriate name for an unctuous character, just as “Soapy Sam” in England was a century ago. The pertinent quote from Richard Ford is “ ‘You can’t choose who your old man is,’ he said to me . . . ‘Mine was a son-of-a-bitch. A soapstone son-of-a-bitch.’ ”
