词汇 | mossback |
词源 | mossback. A very conservative person, a reactionary. The term is said to have been coined to describe draft-dodging southerners who hid out in the swamps so long that moss grew on their backs. These mossybacks weren’t forgotten after the Civil War, for by the early 1880s their derogatory name began to be used as an epithet for extremely conservative political factions. |
